Phish, Vermont’s sensational alternative rock and jam band, is bringing its signature sounds to BB&T Pavilion!
The band was formed at the University of Vermont in 1983 and is composed of Trey Anastasio (guitar, lead vocals), Jon Fishman (drums, percussion, vocals), Mike Gordon (bass, vocals), and Page McConnell (keyboards, vocals). Their music is based on group improvisation and extended grooves that are influenced by a variety of genres such as psychedelic rock, funk, reggae, hard rock, folk, and bluegrass. Some of their songs take an unconventional vocal approach such as a cappella sections of barbershop quartet-style vocal harmonies. Despite receiving only a little radio play and mainstream exposure, Phish has developed a large and dedicated following by word of mouth and the exchange of live recordings. They’ve had a stellar career with 12 studio albums, 12 live albums, 11 video albums, 21 singles, and have sold over 8 million records and DVDs in the US. Rolling Stone magazine stated that the band helped to “...spawn a new wave of bands oriented around group improvisation and extended instrumental grooves”.
